About

Matt Bjornson writes about Forward Deployed Product Management—embedded product judgment for AI outcomes that ship.

I work on Forward Deployed Product Management: product judgment at the edge of AI delivery, where models meet real organizations and either change outcomes or become expensive demos.

This site exists to name the craft clearly, teach the playbooks, and keep the role from turning into title inflation.

Why I’m building this

Most “AI product” conversation lives in decks and demos. The hard work is in the customer environment. Frame the problem, cut scope, ship something adoptable, and measure whether behavior actually changed.

I’ve seen engineers ship the model and still lose the outcome. I’ve also seen classic PM process melt when field constraints show up. Forward Deployed PM bridges those gaps. It needs shared language, artifacts, and standards.

How I work with this idea

  • Define the role so leaders can hire it — see What is a Forward Deployed PM?
  • Publish field notes practitioners can reuse
  • Stay honest about what salary roles fund vs. what ownership builds wealth. The craft and the career are related but not the same.
